True Colors

It seems it's been a difficult primary season for the Democrats with the Hillary folks saying the'd vote for McCain before Obama and many Obama folks just disgusted with Hillary's campaign. That's the mainstream media's story and they are sticking to it. I don't think that's the story at all.

The real story is that the Democrats have an African American and a woman candidate and they are both wonderfully qualified and both will bring some sense and order to this country and the republicans have what they always had classism, racism and sexism. Only this past week, the republicans including Mark Kirk have shown through their present votes on the war funding bill(because it also contained some measures to support the troops, the unemployed are rebuild the levees in New Orleans) and Bush's unprecidented political statements in Israel that whenever they get power they use it for their own political agenda rather than governing the country for the good of the country. They've also shown when confronted with an African American man they cannot hlep themselves but to resort to the basest racism, Huckabee visualizing for the benefit of his audience someone shooting at Barack Obama, then claiming it was a joke, and McCain supporters selling a t-shirts comparing Obama to Curious George.

They are what they are is the corollary to it is what it is, and what we have here is a party that would rather de-fund their own war than help out an average American and a group of people that simply cannot help themselves from making racist comments and taking racist actions.

Then there is the pièce de résistance, Bush claimed he gave up golf as his sacrifice for the Iraq War. Keith Olbermann jumped on that bit of extreme disporportionalism. But wait. That wasn't the end of it as it turned out Bush didn't give up golf as he said. The only thing Bush gave up on was telling the truth, if he ever did that ever.

This week was not a Hillary v. Obama week, it was a week of true colors, the let them eat cake and macaca moments of the republican party.

  • "classism, racism and sexism."

You must be talking about the extended Democratic Primary. Blue collar small town types are "bitter" Bible thumping gun owners, with one camp trotting out a former president (who once claimed he was the first black president) to claim the black candidate cannot win and the other camp insinuating that stubborn trait is a female thing and she should just quit.

Tsk, tsk, tsk! You elitist Democrats need to become more politically correct! What is that old adage about people living in glass houses? :-)

  • Lou,

I just wish McCain's wife (she who would be first lady) would agree to release her tax returns, just as both Democratic candidates and their spouses have done.

Then we would know once and for all how elitist Mrs. McCain and her husband REALLY are. The American people deserve to know if any of McCain's financial dealings (and his efforts to support them in Congress) are buried in his wife's tax returns.

I'm not holding my breath, however, because McCain has a completely different set of standards for his own behavior than he has for the behavior of others.

The tax return issue (along with many others) shows that McCain is a hypocrite, pure and simple.
    But we already knew that.
