Surprise! Mark Kirk Lies About Health Care Reform (Again)

Progress Illinois reported. I commented:

Kirk falsely touts his third pillar of "reform" as trust busting. He calls for the "breakup of local state insurance monopolies". This is yet another example of how Kirk lies to make his idea sound like it will be good for people when it will only be good for large, corporate interests. What this means is that they want to create fully de-regulated national insurance monopolies. Right now insurers are regulated by the states. Each state has an insurance regulator. In Illinois, we have a pretty good agency that does that, the Illinois Department of Insurance. You can report bad insurer behavior to them. For example, if your insurer cancels you without the proper notice, you can report it. They will help you. Kirk and Biggert do not want you to have a place to call when an insurer violates a law. In fact, they don't even want the insurer to be burdened by any laws. They do not want you to have that protection. There is no federal department of insurance and their bill does not propose one. There are no federal insurance rules and their bill does not propose any. They want you to be on your own against huge national insurance monopolies. That is reform to Kirk and Biggert. It's pretty disgusting that the reporter fails to mention any of that in her report. It used to be considered part of a journalist's job to do some research and ask tough questions. Now, reporters are nothing more than human mic stands. It's a shame that the DSCC spokesperson was not knowledgeable enough to point that out. I'd love to see Democrats find experts and use them rather playing catchup using the same frames as used by the likes of the liars Kirk and Biggert.
