Tea For Two, Two Mark Currans That Is

Mark Curran ran for Lake County Sheriff as a Democrat. He quickly and surely drifted off to the republican camp, claiming Democrats were not nice to him. Then he said the media wasn't nice to him, so what does that have to do with the Democrats? In any event, Curran's shift happened so quickly that it showed he always intended to do so. He lied to beat the then republican incumbent..

Curran became a republican, but didn't stop there. Now Curran is a full-fledged tea partier, fully committed to blending church and state heard to be said: "When faith conflicts with politics, faith wins every time with me."

You got it right, Curran will use his office to push his brand of  Christianity and from what we hear over here it involves Opus Dei. Opus Dei is an organization founded in Spain that was designated as a personal prelature within the Catholic Church. That means that Opus Dei operates outside the Church hierarchy, but is considered to be an entity within the Church. People in Opus Dei believe their's is the real church and what the rest of the world knows as the Catholic Church is not legitimate. Members of Opus Dei try to get into government so they can bring their dogma to government.

Opus Dei also has of a reputation for being cult-like and somewhat fascist. It is intolerant of other religions, against education, authoritarian, against equal rights of women and many men too. Opus Dei also believes in mixing its religion with our state.

So, basically, our Lake County Sheriff is controlled by an international, fundamentalist religious ideology that he will always put above his role as Sheriff. You might want to consider voting this guy out before he becomes too entrenched in Lake County government.

Here's one of Curran's tea party diatribes: Note that, to Curran, the tea party is the movement to bring God into our government. He tells the audience to evangelize. Note also that part of Curran's religion is to berate the deceased Ted Kennedy. What Kennedy has to do with any of us here in Lake County, I'll never know, but that made it clear to me that he was a republican when he ran as a Democrat. Talk about moral relativism, Mark. What about your lying about being a Democrat when you were a republican?

Don’t let facts get in your way

I rarely respond to blog posts but you diatribe about Sheriff Curran and the Tea Party, which I am not a member is so off base I could not resist.
It is true that Sheriff Curran was elected in his first term as a Democrat he made no bones about his conservative values during that election. The shift to the Republican ticket was not a big surprise.
The Sheriffs support from the Tea Party is not because of his party, (in fact the Sheriffs rating from the Tea Party was only a 3 out of 5) it is because he has done a great job as Lake County Sheriff and has taken a hard line on gang activity in Lake County, under his leadership crime is down 17% in Lake county even though it is increasing just over the county line in McHenry County.

The pillar of his opponent Doug Roberts law enforcement plan, as he told the Daily Herald http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20101013/news/710139632/ is “hope”. I do hope our law enforcement never get to point where the best we can ask for is to hope crime goes away.

As to the your analysis of the Tea Party, the movement is not about “God and Government” although maybe we could use more of it, it is about controlling the runaway spending in Washington and Springfield.

Dan, You say the tea party is not about God and Government, but by Mark Curran's own words it is.

You should be ashamed of your support for this man who claims to be in an army at holy war with the rest of us.

This is appalling and your support for it shows us where our Lake County republican party is at.

The Sheriff is not a spokesman for the Tea Party and you know that, I am not a spokesman for the Lake County Republican Party and you should also know that. You are extremely arrogant to tell me I should be ashamed because I support Sheriff Curran and you don’t.
The problems in our country and community are not because people including elected officials believe in God, and you should not demonize them because they do.

It's not the belief in God that's the problem. It's the foisting a particular brand of religion on the rest of us and lying about the founding of this country as a Christian country when it was clearly founded to prevent the persecution of minority interests, including minority religions and the non-religious. It appears to me that the Lake County republicans have been taken over by forces that seek to merge fundamentalist Christianity into government and it also appears to me that you should be with us on this point because they ousted you.

As for the Sheriff not being a spokesperson for the tea party, they sure gave him a lot of time to speak and seemed very supportive of him in doing so. If that's not a spokesperson, what is?

All you need to do is watch the video and see for yourself. Mark Curran should be a sheriff in Mississippi or Alabama not in Lake
County Illinois

Talk of the County Building -Curran is spending thousands of dollars on bible purchases for the jail.

I wouldn't wish this on Mississippi or Alabama, but I get your point.

I also wonder about Curran's position on foreclosures. When Dart stopped certain evictions in Cook, Curran talked about how wonderful it was that his office was making so much money on foreclosures. Given his uber-Christianity and his willingness to impose it on our personal lives, why is he unwilling to impose it on banks that are charging usurious interest rates, a biblical no-no.

When Curran talks about the birth rate needing to be 2.3, you have to put the comment into context. He means that white people have to increase their birth rate because the birth rate for immigrants is about 2.3. The guy claims to have religion, but he's pretty much just a run of the mill racist.

I do agree, Mr Venturi needs to stay away from the political spectrum, he was in fact ousted as republican chairman, however he still double dips, being the lake villa township supervisor as well as having his own small one man law practice. Mr Venturi is far from credible.. In reference to Mr Curran, his integrity has been in question since he flip flopped from democrat to republican to tea party avtivist. Lake County needs Doug Roberts as our Sheriff now more then ever.....
